History Galleria Dallas
The Galleria mall in Dallas, which was first known as Dallas Galleria, opened in 1982 with the anchor stores Marshall Field's and Saks Fifth Avenue as well as the Westin, which has 432 rooms. The mall had grown by 1985, and a Macy's store had opened.
The mall served as the setting for the 20th Anniversary live reunion special of the Sump'n Else bandstand program, which was broadcast live on WFAA-TV Channel 8 and simulcast on KVIL. Later, the mall's former Saks location was transformed into a Gap Inc. megastore that housed the Banana Republic on the first level, Gap on the second level, and Old Navy on the third level. For $300 million, Hines Interests sold the shopping center to Hartford, Connecticut-based UBS Realty Investors LLC in 2002. By 2003, a significant refurbishment had started, and the mall's name had been changed to "Galleria Dallas."
